Our Chairman writes …
Rehearsals start on Wednesday 10th January for our Spring concert on 24th March. Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solonelle” will be a first for us and I’m sure that it will prove to be a really great sing! We would like more tenors and basses so if you’d like to have a go please join us on Wednesday. All details of our rehearsal venue are on our web page. Look forward to seeing ALL our regulars and maybe some new faces. Happy New Year to all.
The choir was delighted to accept BBC Radio Suffolk’s invitation to perform at the Children in Need Carol Concert, which was recorded at the Britten Studio at Snape Maltings. It was a thoroughly enjoyable event, and we hope you managed to hear the broadcast.
There’s nothing quite like a last-minute panic before a concert, and this was a biggie: our soprano soloist, Gill Wilson was taken ill and, at twenty four hours’ notice, we needed to find a replacement. In the event, Paula Downes stepped in and scored a triumphant success.
… and rehearsals start this coming Wednesday for our Christmas concert. We will be performing Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, Christmas music from Handel’s “Messiah”, and Christmas carols.
We have also been invited to take part in the BBC Radio Suffolk Carol Concert this year, which takes place in the Britten Studio, Snape Maltings at 4 pm on Saturday 16th December.
It will be a busy few months, but great fun!
Our summer concert this year, in the beautiful setting of St Mary & St Martin, Kirton!
Not that it feels much like summer, here at the end of April, but we have started rehearsals for our Summer Concert. The concert will take place at Kirton Church on 17th June and we will tell you more – much more! – in due course. Meanwhile, I have posted a few photographs of the “Cathedral Classics” concert on our Facebook page, just follow the link.
As we take our half-term break, we’re looking forward to …
Our Spring concert, “Cathedral Classics” will take us from Thomas Tallis to Howard Goodall; from the earliest post-Reformation settings of English Bible verses to the Vicar of Dibley. Uplifting both to sing and to listen to, we hope you will join us in March at St John’s, Orwell Road.
… until the concert. If the wonderful sound the choir was making on Wednesday night is anything to go by, it will be one to remember.
